School Hosts Early Morning 鈥楻ead and Feed鈥 to Push Family Literacy
Event at John Sloat Elementary School TOMORROW aimed at encouraging parents to read with children

Press release

The family that reads together succeeds together.
That鈥檚 the message John Sloat Elementary School hopes to get across tomorrow with its first annual 鈥淩ead and Feed,鈥 an early morning snack-and-a-book event for parents and children.

鈥淩ead and Feed鈥 begins at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, October 19) in the John Sloat Elementary School cafeteria, 7525 Candlewood Way. Media must check in with the school office on arrival.

鈥淧arents can help their children learn to love books and become better readers by being good reading role models,鈥 says John Sloat Principal Angela Novotny. 鈥淩eading is an important key to success in school and life.
鈥淎s Dr. Seuss wrote, 鈥楾he more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you鈥檒l go!鈥 鈥

Studies show that students with the best literacy skills perform the best in school and enjoy school more. Because literacy is critical to academic success, the Sacramento City Unified School District has made improving reading and writing skills a goal for all schools.
