Sacramento City Unified Board of Education approves 2017-18 school district budget, faces future budget deficits
District reserves will cover current budget but state-mandated PERS/STRS contribution increases and a $621 million other post-employment benefits (OPEB) unfunded liability will require district to reduce spending in future years

SACRAMENTO, CA 鈥 On Wednesday night, the Sacramento City Unified Board of Education unanimously approved a $566.99 million budget at a special meeting of the board. While current revenues are sufficient to cover spending for the 2017-18 fiscal year, budget staff warned that spending in future years will need to be reduced in order to avoid fiscal trouble.

Trustees set to vote on new superintendent for Sacramento city schools

What: The Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Trustees will vote to approve Mr. Jorge Aguilar as the district鈥檚 next Superintendent at their May 4th meeting. Eight meetings were held at schools and locations throughout the district with participation from over 372 attendees that represented a broad and diverse group of parents, students, staff and community members. Comments from each town hall are posted on the district website.

Jan. 25, 2017 (Sacramento):  Decades-old Kit Carson Middle School is looking for a name to match its students as the campus evolves into a high school.

Kit Carson Vice Principal Rich Haley who serves on the committee charged with bringing recommendations to the Sacramento City Unified School District said the group has begun gathering input from the community. 鈥淲e want to know what the community wants 鈥 whether we should adopt a totally new name or only tweak the name by dropping the middle school designation,鈥 Haley said.

Sacramento City Unified School District鈥檚 Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday to designate 69视频 schools as 鈥渟afe havens鈥 that protect students regardless of immigration status.

Superintendent Banda鈥檚 statement on Measure G
Parcel tax would have generated $6 million-$7 million annually for 69视频 schools

November 17, 2016 (Sacramento):  Sacramento City Unified School District Superintendent Jos茅 L. Banda today thanked supporters of Measure G and expressed disappointment over the initiative鈥檚 narrow defeat at the polls.

Measure G was supported by 65 percent of Sacramento voters 鈥 just short of the two-thirds needed for passage. Although more voters cast ballots in favor of Measure G than Proposition 55 鈥 a statewide tax measure 鈥 Measure G failed to reach the supermajority required by law.
