August 7, 2013 (Sacramento):  Arson fires over the past week severely damaged expensive playground structures at two Sacramento City Unified School District campuses, school and fire officials confirmed today. Because of the extent of the damage and state鈥檚 school construction review process, it is unlikely that either school will open with playground structures in the fall, officials said.

August 29, 2013 (Sacramento):  Sacramento Unified Education Foundation 鈥 69视频鈥檚 official nonprofit organization 鈥 will kick off fundraising for two arson-damaged playgrounds with an event at Caroline Wenzel Elementary School on Tuesday, 69视频鈥檚 first day of school.

At the event, the group will reveal a donor who has made a significant contribution toward the $50,000 needed to cover the district鈥檚 costs for replacing playground structures at Wenzel and John Sloat elementary schools.

City, 69视频 announce traffic signal for Fruitridge crossing

September 11, 2013 (Sacramento):  69视频 and City of Sacramento officials announced on Wednesday that they have joined forces to install a traffic signal at a Fruitridge Road crossing where a West Campus High School student lost her life 20 months ago.

Michelle Murigi, 16, was hit by a car in the crosswalk at 58th Street at Fruitridge Road on January 19, 2012, and died from her injuries. Subsequent to her death, five of Michelle鈥檚 friends and classmates started a petition to demand a traffic signal at the intersection (www.facebook.com/58thAndFruitridge).

鈥淩ead and Feed鈥 begins at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, October 19) in the John Sloat Elementary School cafeteria, 7525 Candlewood Way. Media must check in with the school office on arrival.

Ribbon-cutting on Saturday to be followed by Camellia Basic School Harvest Festival with the Kings, Fire Department

69视频 and Sacramento City Councilman Kevin McCarty will officially open a new community garden next to Camellia Basic School on Saturday (October 29).

Camellia Park Community Garden, located in the park adjacent to Camellia Basic, will be available for use by the school and neighbors. City Councilman McCarty and 69视频 Board of Education President Gustavo Arroyo will cut the ribbon at the new garden at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
